Business Development Manager

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000

Location: University of Bath, Bath

Cellular Agriculture is looking for a Business Development Manager to support the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in the commercial and strategic development of the company through the translation of the company’s engineering and research & development streams into industry-leading products, and to build and grow external relationships in order to identify new business, grow revenues and increase profitability.

As a Business Development Manager your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Act as a liaison between the Engineering team, the Research & Development team (R&D) and our customers.

  • Support the development pathways of the Engineering team and the R&D team to deliver marketable product.

  • Research and identify new business opportunities including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services, or new ways of reaching existing markets.

  • Generate new leads and seek out the appropriate contact in an organisation.

  • Foster and develop relationships with customers/clients.

  • The ability to think strategically - seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business.

  • Work strategically - carry out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes.

  • Liaise with our legal team to draw up client contracts, non-disclosure agreements and material transfer agreements.

  • Have a good understanding of the business’s products and services and be able to advise others about them.

  • Liaise with the finance team, procurement, Engineering, R&D and other teams/departments as appropriate.

  • Seek ways of improving the way the business operates.

  • Attend seminars, conferences and events and, where appropriate, represent the company at presentations and pitching.

  • Keep abreast of trends and changes in the industry and wider business world, and interpreting these for business opportunities.

  • Lead and support colleagues in the commercial team on projects, grant work, partnerships, collaborations, marketing and communications activities.

  • Support colleagues in the Engineering team and Commercial team on intellectual property, contracting, and legal documentation.

 

To succeed as a Business Development Manager, we ask that you have the following experience:

  • Has typically 3-5 years of commercial experience in the life science or closely related sector.

  • Has worked actively in commercially driven science/engineering/innovation over an extended period.

  • Demonstrable revenue generation

  • Problem solving in a practical environment.

  • An understanding of mammalian cell culture and/or life sciences industries.

  • An understanding of intellectual property.

  • Project finance experience.

  • Experience of project management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent presentation and pitching skills for different stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication style and team working.

  • Ability to collaborate for the successful delivery of milestones.

  • Ability to integrate into and lead a diverse team and be respectful of others to ensure inclusivity.

  • Ability to acquire, document and share knowledge.

  • Demonstration of independence in thought and innovative design.

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills for level of experience.

  • An organised, practical, and logical mindset to ensure tasks are prioritised and completed in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Ability to form positive working relationships with people both internal and external, across business and other stakeholders, the community and the general public.
