What this role entails 

​As a Materials Science Technician, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations, supporting membrane production and bioprocessing systems. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Setting up and operating day-to-day lab scale membrane production and bioprocessing systems, following project managers’ instructions and collaborating across the company’s Departments to accelerate the R&D and Engineering workplans. 

  • Acting as the go-to expert for specific equipment, providing knowledge and support to ensure optimal functionality. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including biologists and engineers, for continuous process improvements and adaptations towards optimal membrane formulation and fabrication. 

  • Working closely with a diverse team of technicians, sharing  expertise and maintaining a professional, clean and safe working environment.  

Objectives 

  • Bioprocess development support by running and enhancing membrane fabrication processes. 

  • Equipment maintenance by troubleshooting and performing routine maintenance on equipment to improve quality and productivity, contributing to the overall efficiency of work flows.  

  • Materials Lab Management: Take responsibility for elements of specific projects and/or specific areas of general laboratory/sample administration and assigned housekeeping tasks as required. 

  • Technical Support: Provide technical support with a positive and enthusiastic problem-solving approach. 

Selection Criteria  

1. Experience  

Degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related field, plus sustained experience in material production, in a process or manufacturing environment, or equipment maintenance within a multidisciplinary environment (engineering, or R&D and/or materials environment). 

2. Delivering for an organisation 

Experience of responsibility for managing the day-to-day running of an entire lab and/or several items of equipment. Willingness to work in a hands-on environment, and a strong drive to learn and develop further technically. 

3. Team working 

Demonstrable ability to collaborate with a diverse range of individuals in a multi-disciplinary environment with a focus on achieving common goals. Ability to ‘get to the bottom of’ what a colleague really needs to solve their problems. 

4. Expertise 

Essential:  Polymer chemistry including mixing and blending.

Preferable: Materials R&D/production, with a strong interest and desire to develop skills in Process/Manufacturing line improvement.
